Think About it

The Petition to keep the Sears Tower name is nearing 30,000 signatures as of today. Many of you wonder, why are people making such a big deal about this, but CTP has realized the significance of this movement. Chicago has not been great lately in terms of keeping its history intact. Important and notable landmarks have fall victim of this trend. Comiskey Park went through a ownership and name change, the historical and beloved Soldiers Field went through a very unpopular renovation that stripped the stadium of its landmark status and now many critics complain- "looks like some spacecraft besides Lake Michigan". Furthermore, Marshall Fields, which has been a part of Chicagoan lives, was bought out and replaced by Macy's a New York based retail business. And once again, here we are... our iconic 110 story tall skyscraper is about to suffer the same faith and Chicagoans are speaking out.
Sure, Sears has not occupied the building since 1992, but its not about Sears the company or not. This name is a part of Chicago's tradition, a symbol of Chicagoan pride and love. It is history, and Chicagoans are not ready to easily part with it, especially not to an outsider of Chicago. This is the mindset of Chicagoans everywhere. Chicago is our city and we will fight to keep our interests. This event has demonstrated that Chicagoans can come together for a single cause and fight side by side for what they believe is right.
Imagine if the same intensity and passion was focused on keeping our streets safe. Imagine if the same intensity and passion was focused on lending a helping hand to the less fortunate children of Chicago who is waiting for someone or something to give them hope. Image if the same intensity and passion was focused on putting aside our differences and taking the time to learn about each other's culture and background; embracing our fellow friends and neighbors. Image if the same intensity and passion was focused on helping a fellow starving Chicagoan get back on their feet.... IMAGINE the possibilities of what we can do.

Think about it.
